A lesson from a leaf
Autumn did not disappoint this year! The splendor enchanted me daily.
We have a beautiful state park here that boasts over 1 million visitors each year because the leaves simply take your breath away! But its more than just their ever changing colors. A friend of mine simply can not get enough of crunchy leaves under her feet! To be honest, her joy might be even more delightful than the crunch of the leaves themselves.
Have you ever just sat down and watched leaves fall? We seem to understand the magic of a gentle snowfall, so why not enjoy the leaves as well? I have a mini cooper convertible that not only allows me to marvel at the tree tops but also collects samples of leaves for me to enjoy even after the sun has gone to bed. What a gift!
Did you know that each leaf is a living solar panel that can actually nourish the tree by changing sunlight into food?
Just stop and think about that friend.
Each leaf is born a new in the spring, spends the summer making miracles from the sun and then dies in the fall with colorful splendor so the tree might sleep through the winter to begin again in the spring. How glorious, beautiful and abundant?
We must reawaken to the awe inspiring truth that is endlessly at work around us. God is not only creative, he is abundance.
Today I will mulch those leaves and use them to line my flower beds because somehow even in their death they will provide nourishment and beauty. Nature endlessly exclaims the true character of God! Yes, the creation can groan and we can feel small and helpless but even then we see the truth of our need for a Savior.
Consider this today: watch one leaf fall from the treetop to the earth and tell me that it doesn't make you smile a little bit. It is whimsical and carefree and allows the wind to decide where it will rest.
May my heart be so willing to be moved, led and rest where the Spirit takes me.
